미래의 편지는 지금 쓴 글을 사용자가 정한 미래의 날짜까지 암호화해 잠가두는 편지 앱입니다. 나 자신에게, 애인·배우자·친구·가족에게 편지를 쓸 수 있습니다. 나에게 쓴 편지는 기기 안에 보관되고, 타인에게 쓴 편지는 사용자가 직접 코드를 복사해 원하는 방법(메신저 등)으로 전달합니다. 회원가입·로그인은 없습니다.
편지를 나 아닌 다른 사람에게 쓰면, 앱은 그 편지 내용을 암호화한 코드를 생성합니다. 이 코드를 카카오톡·문자·이메일 등 어떤 방법으로 전달할지는 전적으로 사용자가 선택합니다 — 앱 자체는 이 코드를 어떤 서버로도 전송하지 않습니다. 받는 사람이 이 코드를 자신의 기기에 등록하면, 그 사람의 기기에서 독립적으로 암호화되어 저장됩니다.
설정에서 비밀번호로 보호된 백업 코드를 만들 수 있습니다. 이 백업 코드 역시 기기 안에서만 생성되며, 저장하거나 전달하는 방법(클립보드 복사 등)은 사용자가 정합니다. 개발자 서버에는 어떤 백업도 전송되지 않습니다.
편지 내용·백업 코드는 이 제3자 서비스들과 공유되지 않습니다(광고·결제와 완전히 분리된 별개 저장소).
유럽 경제 지역·영국·스위스 사용자에게는 광고 개인 맞춤 설정에 대한 동의 창(UMP)이 표시됩니다.
편지·설정은 전부 기기 안에만 있으며, 앱을 삭제하거나 앱에서 직접 편지를 지우면 함께 사라집니다. 개발자가 서버에 보관하는 사용자 데이터가 없으므로 별도의 삭제 요청 절차가 필요하지 않습니다. 다만 기기를 분실하거나 초기화하면, 백업해두지 않은 편지는 복구할 수 없습니다.
편지의 시간 잠금은 기기의 시계를 신뢰 시각(온라인 시)과 대조하고, 오프라인일 때는 되돌릴 수 없는 단조 시계로 방어합니다. 다만 이는 완벽한 보안장치가 아니라 사용자 본인과의 약속을 지키기 위한 장치입니다 — 이 점을 앱 안에서도 동일하게 고지합니다.
이 앱은 만 13세 미만 어린이를 대상으로 하지 않습니다. Designed for Families 프로그램에 참여하지 않습니다.

Future Letter is a letter app that encrypts what you write now and keeps it locked until a future date you choose. You can write to yourself, a partner, a spouse, a friend, or family. Letters to yourself are kept on your device; letters to others produce a code that you copy and share yourself, through whatever channel you choose (messaging apps, etc). There is no sign-up or login.
When you write a letter to someone other than yourself, the app generates a code containing that letter's encrypted content. How you deliver that code — messaging app, SMS, email, or otherwise — is entirely up to you; the app itself never sends the code to any server. When the recipient registers the code in their own copy of the app, it is encrypted and stored independently on their device.
In Settings, you can create a password-protected backup code. This backup is also generated only on-device; how you save or share it (e.g. copying it) is your choice. No backup is ever sent to a developer server.
Letter content and backup codes are never shared with these third-party services — they live in a completely separate, local store.
Users in the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland are shown a consent form (UMP) for ad personalisation.
Letters and settings exist only on your device and are removed when you uninstall the app or delete a letter yourself. The developer keeps no user data on any server, so no separate deletion request is needed. However, if you lose or reset your device, any letters you didn't back up cannot be recovered.
The time lock checks your device clock against a trusted time source when online, and defends against clock rollbacks with a one-way monotonic clock when offline. This is not an unbreakable security mechanism — it is a device meant to help you keep a promise to yourself. The app states this plainly in its own onboarding as well.
This app is not directed to children under 13. It does not participate in the Designed for Families programme.
